Day 1 arrival Colombo, Galle transfer
Upon arrival at the Colombo airport, drive with your English-speaking driver / guide to Galle.
In Galle a large Dutch fort was built in 1663. The huge building, more like a village, gives a good idea of the power of the VOC in that period. Nowadays it sits,in almost original condition, at the entrance to the Bay of Galle. Within the thick walls, the atmosphere has not changed in over three hundred years, it is also the best preserved fort of Southeast Asia. Dutch names like Grote Kerk, Leynbaan straat, Utrecht-Bastion, Akersloot Bastion and Clippenberg Bastion recall the time when there was a vibrant herb and spice trade between Ceylon and the Netherlands.
Day 2 Galle
Today you have the whole day to enjoy the fort. Go to the Dutch Reformed church where all Dutch tombstones with inscriptions attest to the fact that  Dutchmen lived here. The museum is around the corner and strawling through the intimate streets where beautiful villas and beautiful typical houses lie. The Montessori primary school gives you a warm welcome to come and take a look inside. At the end of the day it is lovely to walk on the ramparts of the fortress on the seaward side. All the locals do it with you! There are kites here and you can enjoy the sunset.
Day 3 Galle - Talalla
You travel along the south coast to Talalla. En route visit Weligame, where the famous 'stilted fishermen' can be seen. Fishermen stand here on stilts in the water to catch their fish.
You arrive at the beach of Tallala.

The next few days, you can take it easy in your small resort. Enjoy delicious cuisine, take part in a yoga class, go for some swimming, tropical birds watching and of course enjoy the beautiful beach.
Day 4 and 5 Talalla
Two full days to relax on the beach, swim in the sea, read a book by the pool, relax, enjoy some tasty food. Two days to do exactly what you fancy yourself!
Day 6 Talalla - Yala / evening game drive
You travel to the most famous nature reserve of Sri Lanka; the Yala National Park. In the afternoon, just before sunset go on a safari through the Yala nature reserve. Chances are big you see elephants and maybe even leopards. There are 130 different bird species in this reserve. Because you're three nights in Yala and have plenty of time to enjoy yourself in the area, you will stay in a special accommodation, an extension of the National Park. The resort fits perfectly with the surroundings of the park. moreover from your resort, it is possible to book a variety of fun excursions!
Day 7 Yala / Kataragama and optional Bundula
In the morning you can choose  several options. A must is the Bundula safari in nearby Bundula National Park. Where in Yala you can find yourself surrounded by other jeeps searching for Leopards, you often have Bundula national park for yourself. It is a wetlands area adjacent to the ocean. You can see many species of water birds, bee birds, raptors, hornbills, as well as crocodiles, deer and elephants. The Bundula National Park is about an hour away from Yala. In the afternoon you visit the temple of Kataragama with your driver and the huge Buddha statues at Kataragama. Here are seven huge Buddhas carved into the rocks, a monument built in the 8-10e century.
Day 8 Yala / morning game drive
Today you make a morning game drive. Yala is a fantastic savanna-like nature park. Just after sunrise go into the park by jeep. Your safari will focus on finding leopards! The chances of succeed are certainly present but not guaranteed. Therefore, it is a good idea to also enjoy the other wildlife here. Wild buffalo, elephants, crocodiles, many gazelles, wild peacocks, wild chickens, bee-eaters and brightly colored kingfishers are in abundance. Fantastic!
Day 9 Yala - Nuwara Eliya
Today you will travel on to Nuwara Eliya. Here begins a scenic drive through the tea plantations, passing waterfalls and magnificent views of the green hills. Along the way you visit one of the famous tea plantations where the so renowned Ceylon tea comes from. You travel through a hilly area with many tea plantations. Chances are that you will see the colorful tea pickers with their baskets on back busy working. Around lunchtime we arrive in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 10 Nuwara Eliya / optional: Horton Plains
'City of Light' Nuwara Eliya at an altitude of 2000meters is also called. The typical British buildings create an atmosphere the city has also given the nickname 'Little England'. Here the British retreated to escape the heat of the lowlands. In the area you can still see several old colonial houses, whose red painted post office is the best example. The golf course, the racecourse and the Victoria Park also contribute to the British colonial atmosphere. Due to the height it cools down in the evening; so make a sweater or fleece.

It is definitely worth the trip to go from Nuwara Eliya to Horton Plains. You walk  to World's End, located on the desolate plateau of Horton Plains. You can choose from several walks. The longest and hardest walk is 9.5 kilometers (three to four hours) on relatively flat terrain. At one point you will reach a fantastic view to Worlds End and will, at the vertical cliff, have the feeling that you are at the end of the world. Begin the walk as early as possible, because in the course of the day, mist may be generated at Worlds End. Take warm clothing because in the early morning, it sometimes can be very cold here! Often in the morning it is a little foggy, but as the day flourishes thus usually disappear during the day.
Day 11 Nuwara Eliya - Kandy
Continue to Kandy, the second largest city in the country. The 'Royal City' is one of the many UNESCO monuments of Sri Lanka. The main attraction is undoubtedly the Dalada Maligawa, known as the "Temple of the Tooth". Around sunset a ceremony takes place with a tooth of Buddha as the central focus of the ceremony. Around this time you will visit the temple. The left upper tooth of Buddha is the most important Buddhist relic of Sri Lanka. Many pilgrims come to Kandy to make a sacrifice in the temple. During the Esala Perahera, the spectacular festival in July or August, most pilgrims come to see the spectacular processions.
Day 12 Kandy /Elephant Orphanage and botanical gardens

Day 13 Kandy - Sigiriya via Dambulla
On the way from Kandy to Sigiriya, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple. The Sinhalese king Valagam Bahu fled once here when he was chased out of his capital. He was very religious and had to change five rocks in a rock temple and decorated it entirely with images of Buddha. The complex murals of well over 2,000 years old. A climb of 150 meters in altitude will take you to it. Do not forget to stop off and during the climb to enjoy the beautiful views of the playing monkeys.

Around lunchtime you arrive at your hotel in Sigiriya.
Day 14 Sigiriya / Polonnaruwa and Minneriya NP

Polonnaruwa is beautifully situated on one of the biggest 'tanks', artificial lakes (pokunas) of Sri Lanka. These tanks dating back to the 12th century are quite shallow water reservoirs, that collect the monsoon rains as storage for later irrigation. They are also breeding grounds for many bird species. Polonnaruwa was one of the major urban centers of Southeast Asia in the 12th century and a former capital of the island. Of course you can also see the most beautiful masterpiece of the area, the group of four sublime Buddha statues, carved from a single piece of granite: Gal Vihare.
In the afternoon you go join a safari just before sunset in the fantastic bird and elephant reserve at Minneriya Habarane. At the watering holes the animals gather just after sunrise to drink. Depending on the drought and the season are many animals out. Besides magnificent herds of elephants, you can be on the lookout for crocodiles, herons, cranes, marabou storks and hornbills .. an experience!
